Rushnyk is the name of traditional embroidered towels characteristic of East Slavic folklore. It was once believed that they possessed magical protective and healing powers, many being decorated in unique Slavic patterns with their own meaning and purpose. In modern times they’re used to serve bread and salt on, a traditional Slavic greeting for a visiting guest or a married couple. Another use is for them is for a mother to give to her child when he or she leaves the house or heads of on a long journey somewhere.The last most common use in modern times is to hang around holy icons and pictures in ones home or church.
